Joint Retreat to Gustav’s Castle
The Urban’s enjoyed a joint retreat with the Hassan lab from the Paris Brain Institute. We stayed at “Gustav’s Castle” close to Prein an der Rax in Lower Austria. Apart from exchanging ideas during the scientific sessions we also found time to enjoy the fantastic nature during a hike. We also socialized during games, BBQ and watching football.
All in all, we got valuable input for our scientific projects and made the foundation for future collaborations. You can see impressions of the retreat on our lab life page.
DevStem 2026
Marjolein presented her master thesis project during the poster session at DevStem and got valuable feedback on her work.
Ubiquitin & Friends Symposium
Ana, Greeshma, Ninetta and Noelia recently attended the “Ubiquitin and Friends” meeting, a gathering dedicated to the latest breakthroughs in ubiquitin biology, proteostasis, and protein quality control. Beyond the deep dives into how these processes impact health and disease, it was a fantastic chance to swap ideas, soak up new discoveries, and connect with fellow scientists passionate about cellular homeostasis.
Ascona conference
Justus, Kathe, Lidija, Noelia and Pedro attended the conference "NEUROGENESIS FROM DEVELOPMENT TO ADULTHOOD IN HEALTH AND DISEASE" in Ascona. Noelia was giving a talk while Justus, Kathe, Lidija and Pedro presented their PhD projects during the poster session. They had an opportunity for many great scientific discussions and also reunited with Rut, a former PhD student from the lab.
The lab at SY-STEM 2026
Noelia was charing the “Stem cell models for human health” session and Justus, Katherina and Lidija had the opportunity to present their PhD projects during the poster sessions.
Welcome Marjolein!
Marjolein Van Wolfswinkel joins the lab for her master thesis. Her project is about the role of FGF/ERK signalling in adult neural stem cell quiescence.
Congrats to the Masters of Science
Ninetta Molnar and Ava Abdi both successfully defended their master theses within the same week. Congratulations! They will both stay as part of our lab for their PhD theses. We are happy that both wanted to elongate their stays with us.
Congratulations Dr. Tavernini
Katherina Tavernini successfully defended her PhD thesis! We are very proud of her.
Welcome Xabi!
We are happy to announce that Xabier Blanco Fernandez joins us as a PhD student. His project is part of the cluster of excellence.
